Great device!

Actually, I’m not using it as an attic fan, but as a ventilation system for my (Aluminium exterior) shed in Florida. Impressive result!

The only little irritant in all this is that upon opening the package, it was evident that the box had been opened and unpacked previously. Fortunately, there were no missing parts, but the hardware was loose all over the box and the bag that once held them was torn open and half empty.

The instructions that came with this product could have been a little more detailed. When I received the product I set it up to make sure it worked before I installed it in the attic. I put it together and nothing happened. First I thought that the solar panel had to build up enough power to energize the motor. Then upon looking closer at the fan I noticed something that looked like a controller on the wire line before the motor. Wanting more information I went to Honeywell’s website and researched the product. The thing that looking like a controller is really a thermostat. It turns on the fan when the temp hits 85 and shuts it off when the temp goes down to 65. I would have liked to see that information in the instruction manual.

Other than it was an easy read to figure out how to install. I like the long cord that it comes with, it allows me to have optimal positioning of the solar panel on my roof. I will see how it survives the summer. If it works well I will buy another and put it on the other side of the house. Though if the price drops down any more I will buy it sooner.

Good Product, lower than advertised CFM

It was not too hard to install. Instructions were helpful, though I would have liked guidance on ideal angle and direction placement of the solar panel. The obvious is most directly toward the sun. It is overcast today and it is not running at noon. Others claim it runs when overcast, so maybe I don’t have the ideal angle. I have it facing on an angle toward the sun. Clear days it works beginning mid morning and on into the afternoon. I thought it would move more air. I think I will have to purchase a second to move the amount of air needed to bring the temp down in the attic area. It runs quietly and I like the idea of not installing power or paying more for electricity to ventilate my attic.

I did research based on customer reviews. That is why I chose this unit. Price and reviews indicated it was a good choice. Would I recommend it; not unless I can get more air flow from it.

1 Year Trial Run — Failed

We purchased eight of these in the 2″ thickness with the hard metal frame for our new home that we built and moved into December 2010. We have four HVAC units in the house with 1″ or 4″ openings for filters to accommodate both sizes of potential filter units. All four HVAC systems were installed just before we moved in and these were the first filters installed. One year later, when we’re having our annual heating system checkup, the tech tells us that these units and blowers have a ton of dust in them and if he didn’t know any better, he would swear they had been in service at least 4 years. The bad news is that these filters fit poorly, wiggle around in the opening, and don’t appear to stop much of anything. On the good news side, they are extremely labor intensive requiring monthly cleaning that is non-trivial and extended drying times, heavy to move around (8 of them in and out of the attic monthly), expensive, and left our $50K investment in HVAC for our new home completely unprotected. Great job Boair. These should be featured on the “As Seen on TV” late night TV infomercials. They’re about that calibre.

We would recommend saying as far away from these filters as you possibly can. They’re a complete waste of good money.

After reading a lot of reviews and thinking this would be the perfect solution to costly and environmentally unfriendly disposable filters, we got this for our HVAC system.

We ran our system with this filter for almost 4 months throughout the summer, with the AC running normally throughout the day. Lately I noticed dust building up more and more on glass tables, so now that the fall is here and the temperatures don’t require the constant running of heat or AC, I decided it was time to clean it so that it would have plenty of time to dry.

When I took it out, I noticed that the first layer of white was still perfectly white, which seemed suspicious to me, but my wife and I took it to our upstairs bathtub anyway and ran it under both the faucet and the shower nozzle to test the results together. I did it here and not outside with a hose because our tub is white, and I wanted to see just how much dirt flowed out.

To my horror the water ran completely clean right from the start and continued to until I stopped 2-3 minutes later! I turned it all around, doing both sides and still the water ran clear. We looked at each other completely stunned. I then brought it down the kitchen sink with the removable nozzle head thinking that maybe it needed stronger, close up pressure, and still nothing! Clear water!

I know for a fact that it was inserted into our system with the air flow direction indicator going in the right direction because I remember checking and double checking it when it was first put in and verified it was right as I pulled it out today.

I’m writing to the company now hoping that it was a defective unit, because as of now, this seems like a complete scam.

It Works

I bought this filter and I’ve had it for about a year now, it does a good job, the air flows better. It captures dust very well, but it cannot be compared with active electronic filters (the ones that you plug for power)

Over all, I am pleased with the purchase.

Fantastic Value

I mounted this hoist over the attic pull down ladder in my garage. It mounts nicely to a 1 and 3/4 inch diameter steel tube (I used a section of rigid electrical conduit) using the brackets. There are 6 holes in the red housing with tapped inserts for something like 1/4-20 bolts. It would also mount securely to a flat surface with the included bolts. It is so much safer to hoist things into the attic without balancing heavy loads on a 10 foot ladder! The gearbox does make significant noise when working. It is powerful and well built. The shut off lever is strong steel and will not break. This thing is so much fun to operate, like having your own crane built into your house!

I received the sticks as pictured on the web site. However, the sticks were advertised as “1 to 4 inches” in diameter, but one of the sticks was 3/4 inch or less for most of its length and the second stick was only 1 inch for about 3 feet of its length. I needed a full 1 inch for a project and was disappointed that the sticks were not as advertised. I sent a note to Rockler and asked if I could get sticks that were as advertised (1 to 4 inches) and was told that they would check but could not guarantee the full size. I think that Rockler should revise their description of the sticks because when you read something that states 1 to 4 inches, you would expect that the minimum diameter would be 1 inch. Rockler refunded my payment since I was not satisfied with the sticks. I have ordered items from Rockler before and have always been satisfied with their products. This was an exception. Perfect for my purposes

I was looking for a somewhat rustic sorcerer’s staff, and the stick I received was perfect. 64″ long, and heavier at the base, with some branch stubs. There were some lichen patches and bark that I shaved off with a knife; then I sanded the whole thing with a coarse sanding sponge and stained it ebony. It took the stain well, even over some remaining bits of bark, and looks fantastic with some painted details following the grain of the wood.

It should be noted that this is the only stick I’ve bought, so I don’t know how variable they are. But I was certainly happy with mine.

One of the sticks was very good and the other wad bad. The bad one had no grain as
well as no diamonds on it. If you did not know that it was a diamond willow stick,
its just a plain stick.

Beautiful tile

I usually do not write reviews, but I am so happy with the quality of this tile that I thought it deserved mention. I ordered 35 sq. ft. of this and not a single sq. ft section had any chips/cracks/etc. I ordered an extra 5 sq. ft. just “in case”.
Each box was packed so securely, I can see how no damage was done to any tile during shipping. I was hesitant to order tile online but am glad I did!
The free shipping just added to the deal.
